Wes Welker: In his own words
this is from newsok.com
The Wes Welker Foundation has been giving back to the receiver’s hometown since his first season in the NFL. The foundation aims to influence at-risk youth by encouraging their full potential through athletics and positive role models. To that end, it has sponsored football camps for kids who are eligible for free and reduced lunch, given grants to several Oklahoma City schools for new sports equipment and sponsored a youth football league.

Jenni Carlson: Don’t count Wes Welker out
Wes Welker has doubters and detractors again.
And he loves it.
Wes Welker is using his doubters and detractors as motivation.
The Oklahoma City native and New England receiver tore up his left knee in the Patriots’ regular-season finale last December. The ACL ripped, the MCL shredded and the doubts emerged.
“You can’t do it,” some suggested.
“You’re done,” others whispered.
For Welker, it’s nothing new. This is a guy who’s been questioned every step of the way, who’s heard every reservation and hesitation and suspicion.
“I hate hearing it, but I love hearing it,” said Welker, whose annual charity weekend in Oklahoma City kicks off Friday with the Cleats and Cocktails fundraiser. “To me, that pushes me. That drives me.”

Welker throwing passes with Brady
• He said he’s been throwing “quite often” on the West Coast to a rehabbing Wes Welker, recovering from knee and rotator-cuff surgeries. He made no predictions about when Welker would be ready to play, and was unspecific about how much Welker is doing now. But Welker is only three months removed from major surgery to his knee and shoulder, so it’d be a shock to see him early in the season. “He was an undrafted free-agent and has had to work for anything he’s ever gotten,” Brady said. “So don’t put anything past him.”

Wes Welker pays a house call on Hugh Hefner
found this on boston.com
I heard about it the other day but have been looking for the pictures.
Pity not Wes Welker. The Pats receiver, who’s rehabbing from a serious knee injury, was photographed at the Playboy Mansion over the weekend with Ashley Dupre, the woman snared in the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal. Welker, dressed in a blue bathrobe, was among several athletes, including Bode Miller and Miles Austin, who were at the mansion celebrating the Playboy golf finals.

Edelman speaks of Wes
this is from the bostonherald.com
Just got back from the Best Buddies Friendship Relay at Hopkinton High, which was a pretty phenomenal event. I’ll have plenty more from the actual event, including whether honorary chairman Pierre Woods can do the Electric Slide (he can). Woods brought along teammates Matthew Slater and Julian Edelman, the latter of whom is his roommate. After discussing why they took part in the day dedicated to the inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, I asked Edelman a topic he had yet to discuss publicly. Did you know that Wes Welker had suffered a torn rotator cuff this season? “I did not,” Edelman told me. “Didn’t know. He’s a tough guy. That’s him. That’s Welker for you.” Edelman, the soon-to-be second-year player is used to being asked about his mentor. It happens, oh, every day. “By every person that’s a Patriots fan,” Edelman said. “I’m not really known. I don’t look like a professional football player, but if someone does know, they’ll ask, ‘How’s Wes?’ and all that.” And considering he’s the player likely to be filling in for Welker, it’s particularly noteworthy. Welker and Edelman do text every once in a while. When asked how Welker’s doing, usually Edelman will respond, “Doing well.” I asked, Did it change your mindset for 2010 knowing he had suffered another injury, as he works to rehab his knee? “My mindset’s going to stay the same regardless of what happens to anyone,” Edelman said. “I’m out here trying to get myself better, to help contribute to this team the best I can, so whatever Wes’ deal is, it’s his deal. We need him, as soon as he gets back will be great. But I’m worried more about getting better with my techniques and stuff to help this team.” How much did your experience from last year help? “I need a lot more experience,” he said, “and I have a long way to go, but I do have a nice little foundation to build from and I’m looking forward to getting at it this offseason Archived Posts |
